History

The university reform carried out in 1933 is the basis of many faculty departments in Turkey. As a result of the studies carried out in the Institute of Economics and Sociology affiliated to Istanbul University Faculty of Law in 1934, the first academic formations related to the Social Policy field are encountered. The Institute of Economics and Sociology, which was separated from Istanbul University Faculty of Law in 1936 and connected to the Faculty of Economics, was divided into two as Economics and Sociology Institutes. The Institute of Social Sciences is organized in two disciplines as internal politics (sociology) and social politics. Social Politics discipline forms the basis of today's Labour Economics and Industrial Relations Departments. The establishment of the department is based on Gerhard Kessler, who served at the Istanbul University during the Second World War.

With the contributions of Sabahattin Zaim at Istanbul University, Cahit Talas at Ankara University and Kamil Turan at Gazi University, schools started to form. With the establishment of Council of Higher Education (YÖK), the name of our department has taken its final form as Labour Economics and Industrial Relations Department. Sabahattin Zaim, Nusret Ekin and Toker Dereli are guided by the department to take this name. Today, there are over 30 different universities Labour Economics and Industrial Relations Department.

Sakarya University Labour Economics and Industrial Relations Department was founded in 1995, when Prof.Dr. Sabahattin ZAİM served as the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. The department, which admitted students in the same year, gave its first graduates in 1999.

Since its establishment, thousands of undergraduate and hundreds of graduate students have graduated from the department, where qualified academic studies on working life and social welfare have been carried out. After changing the name of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Sakarya University in 2014, the department continues its academic activities under the name of Faculty of Political Sciences.
